Wind farm De Drentse Monden en Oostermoer selects Nordex turbine

Wind farm De Drentse Monden en Oostermoer has selected German turbine manufacturer Nordex as preferred supplier. Nordex will provide 45 of their N131/3900 wind turbine for the 175,5 MW wind farm, to be located in the municipalities of Borger-Odoorn en Aa en Hunze in the Province of Drenthe.

Silent turbine
The N131/3900 turbine has a rated output of 3.9 MW. It has a hub height of 145 metres, a rotor diameter of 131 metres and 65,5-metre blades. According to Wind farm De Drentse Monden en Oostermoer, the N131 was selected because it is the most silent in its class. The sound power level produced by the turning blades is limited to max. 106.2 dB(A) through rotor blades equipped with serrated trailing edges. Another reason stated is the willingness shown by Nordex to fit the turbine within the so-called Lofar-convenant which dictates that the electromagnetic (EMC) radiation should be reduced. The wind farm will be constructed in the proximity of the LOFAR telescope which studies space. The EMC radiation produced by the wind turbines could disrupt some of the research performed by the telescope.

Wind farm De Drentse Monden en Oostermoer is an initiative of Duurzame Energieproductie Exloërmond B.V., renewable energy company Raedthuys Pure Energie, Windpark Oostermoer Exploitatie B.V. and cooperative De Windvogel. It is expected to be completed at the end of 2020 at the latest. Once fully operational it will be able to provide around 225,000 households with green energy which is more than all households (216,000) together in the province of Drenthe.

A start has been made on the first construction preparations. This is done in consultation with Nordex. The local community will be informed in advance on the plans. Residents of the municipalities can also participate in the wind farm. This is organised by the cooperative De Windvogel. Source: Drentsemondenoostermoer.nl
