Consortium of Eneco, Boralex, Van Oord and DGE will bid for French offshore wind farm

At the European Energy Transition Conference on 22 January, 4 energy players, Dutch Eneco and Van Oord, Canadian Boralex and English DGE (Diamond Generating Europe Limited), announced they will jointly be bidding for the 500 MW Dunkirk offshore wind farm. The consortium will enter the bid for the wind farm under the consortium name “Vents de Dunkerque”.

Dunkirk was announced in the third call for tenders in April 2016. It will be France’s seventh offshore wind farm. At the end of November 2018, the French government revealed its multiannual energy programme. The programme includes a growth in onshore wind capacity from 14.3 GW to some 35 GW by 2030. Another 2.2 GW of offshore wind will be added to the 3 GW currently tendered. Currently there is only one wind turbine installed offshore. It concerns the Floatgen floating wind turbine.

The four renewable companies are all experienced players in the renewable energy sector. Boralex has local roots in Hauts de France and brings knowledge of the French market to the consortium.

Eneco, Van Oord and DGE (a fully owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation) have previously worked together on 3 offshore wind farms such as Borssele III/IV and Luchterduinen and the Belgian Norther. Photo: Floatgen
