21 companies selected for PortXL programme 2019

This week, 21 start-ups and scale-ups were selected for the 4th edition of PortXL, a Port & Maritime Accelerator programme that aims to accelerate innovative companies in ports all over the world and build an ecosystem that creates value for all stakeholders.

The 21 companies were selected from from around 1,000 entries. The list of companies include 7 start-ups and 14 scale-ups from several countries, including Israel, USA, Spain, UK, India, Australia, Germany, Switzerland.

Flower Turbines
Among the 7 start-ups is USA-based company Flower Turbines. Flower Turbines is a small patented Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT). In a press release, Flower Turbines indicates it plans to incorporate a subsidiary company in the Netherland. From here it will have access to the sea rim of northern Europe. Their wind turbine will be very suitable for cities close to the North Sea and ports.

The start-ups will now embark on an intense 3-months acceleration program, while the scale-ups will board the business fast track program over the same time period, starting on the 25th of March and ending with Shakedown on the 20th of June.

The PortXL innovation programme is an initiative of founders, investors and corporate partners (Van Oord, Port of Rotterdam, EY, Royal IHC, Mammoet, Vopak, Boskalis, Shell, Rabobank, City of Rotterdam, Rotterdam The Hague Airport, InnovationQuarter and ECE).
