Danish turbine manufacturer MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has selected Eemshaven as service base for the 269 MW German offshore wind farm Deutsche Bucht.
MHI Vestas will use Eemshaven as the base for its turbine commissioning and subsequent 15-year O&M works. The company is the first O&M client to be located at the brand new DHSS support base in Eemshaven. The support base was completed at the end of 2018 and features a temperature controlled warehouse, a fluid tight yard and office facilities.
“We wanted a long-term, sustainable solution situated at the most efficient distance from Deutsche Bucht. With DHSS, we have found a partner with a demonstrated history of working in Offshore Renewables as a provider for vessel and port agency, warehousing and helicopter logistics. This new facility and its location is a very good fit for us”, said Henrik Lehmkuhl, MHI Vestas Service Manager, Deutsche Bucht, & Troels Hovgesen, Commissioning Project Manager.
“Port of Eemshaven is geographically ideal for the installation of offshore wind farms in Germany and North Netherlands. With this company milestone we’re demonstrating that the facility is also an A1 utilized port for both commissioning and O&M phases. Deutsche Bucht
Deutsche Bucht features 33 Vestas V164-8.4 MW turbines. Two of the turbines are installed on Mono Bucket foundations. It will be the first time these foundation structures are tested under commercial operating conditions.
Deutsche Bucht is the fourth offshore wind farm to use Eemshaven as O&M base. The port is also used as service base for the Dutch wind farm Gemini and the German wind farms Veja Mate and Merkur Offshore. Source: Groningen Seaports
