DHSS was awarded a contract by Van Oord for call-off helicopter services for the 269 MW German wind farm Deutsche Bucht. It is the second contract for DHSS for the German wind farm in a short time.
Helicopter flights will take off from Den Helder Airport, which is completely utilized as an A1 Offshore Energy heliport, with all facilities in place. Various helicopter operators are based here. It has been the home base for DHSS for 22 years. The company has recently extended its offices to facilitate the expected growth in offshore wind activities. DHSS can also perform the same operations from the fully operational vessel & helicopter support base at Eemshaven.
Last week, DHSS also signed a contract with MHI Vestas for Deutsche Bucht. MHI Vestas will use DHSS’s offshore service hub in Eemshaven as the base for its turbine commissioning and subsequent 15-year O&M works. This contract contains vessel agency, warehousing and helicopter logistics.
“With this call off helicopter contract from Van Oord for Deutsche Bucht, we are fully involved in the commissioning and O&M phase of this wind farm, with vessel & port logistics plus helicopter operations, for two involved companies. It can lead to cost saving operations, as we are able to act adhoc and are able to share passenger seats in helicopters, for both Van Oord and MHI Vestas”, said Wim Schouwenaar, CEO of DHSS.
Deutsche Bucht, located approximately 95 kilometres northwest of the island of Borkum, is the third North-Sea offshore wind farm to be built by Canadian power producer Northland Power. Van Oord was awarded the Balance of Plant contract in 2017 and is responsible for the design engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the foundations, inter array cables and offshore substation, and the transport of the 33 MHI Vestas V164-8.4 MW wind turbines.
