On Saturday, April 13, TenneT installed the first of two export cables that connect the 700 MW offshore Borssele Alpha substation for the Borssele 1&2 offshore wind project with the onshore station in Borssele.
VBNK started to pull in the export cable ashore the previous day in the morning. After the cable was pulled in, the cable laying vessel Giant 7 repositioned itself and started on the most critical part of the installation process, crossing the shipping lane. All shipping traffic to and from the port of Antwerp was temporary held up for this purpose. Over the next few weeks, preparation work will take place for the installation of the second export cable.
A consortium of VBMS (a subsidiary of Boskalis) and NKT Cables were granted the contract for the two export cables of 61 km each in November 2016. One year later, at the end of October, the consortium was also granted the contract for the connection of the Borssele Beta platform that will collect the electricity produced by the Borssele 3&4 offshore wind farm. The connection consists of two 67 km export cables. In addition, the consortium will also be responsible for the interconnection between the Borssele Alpha and Beta platforms. Source: TenneT
