Pull in second export cable Borssele Alpha

Today, May 11, the second export cable that will connect the Borssele Alpha Offshore High Voltage Substation with the transformer station at Borssele made landfall.

A consortium of Boskalis and NKT Cables were granted the contract for the supply and installation of the two 220 kV export cables, with each a capacity of 350 MW, in November 2016. The first export cable was installed in April. Each cable has a length of 61 km. Boskalis used their cable laying vessel Giant 7.

On Friday, the topside for the Borssele Alpha offshore substation left the yard of HSM Offshore in Schiedam. The jacket was already installed last year.

Borssele 1 & 2
The Borssele Alpha station will collect and transform the electricity generated by 94 Siemens 8 MW wind turbines of the 752 MW Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm which is planned to become operational in 2020. The Government awarded the concession for Borssele 1 & 2 to Ørsted in July 2017. The wind farm site is located some 23 km from Westkapelle.
