The provincie of Overijssel, in the east of the Netherlands, is positive towards the development of wind energy in the region Noordoost Twente. It does place the condition that the development takes into consideration social acceptance, participation and local spatial and scenic values.
This was the message given by deputy Tijs de Bree (Energy) during a work visit in Noordoost-Twente. He acknowledges the ambitions of 4 municipalities, Oldenzaal, Losser, Tubbergen and Dinkelland, that together form the National Landscape Noordoost-Twente, to generate more energy from renewable energy sources, including wind energy.
Up to know, the wish to install wind turbines in these municipalities have been disregarded by the Province for not fitting its social environment policy. In the Coalition Agreement the Province is now reconsidering these regions that have previously been excluded for wind energy development. The Deputy has now invited the municipalities to further develop their plans for wind energy development on a short term and to include these plans in the joint bid for the yet to be drawn up Regional Energy Strategies.
