Van Oord’s installation vessel Aeolus has completed the installation of the first monopile at the Borssele III & IV offshore wind farm. Van Oord will install in total 77 monopiles at the 731.5 MW wind farm.
Borssele III & IV is being built 22 kilometres off the coast of the Province of Zeeland and is a project by Blauwwind, a consortium of Partners Group (45%), Shell (20%), DGE (15%), Eneco Group (10%) and Van Oord (10%). Blauwwind won the tender back in December 2016.
Van Oord is responsible for the Balance of Plant activities, consisting of the engineering, supply and construction of the foundations and connecting cables. The company will also install 2 monopiles at the innovation site Borssele V. The monopiles are produced by Sif Group.
Borssele III & IV will comprise 77 MHI Vestas V164 9.5 MW wind turbines.The Borssele Beta offshore transformer station will be designed and built by TenneT. The wind farm is scheduled to be operational by the beginning of 2021. Blauwwind has signed 15-years Power Purchase Agreements with Shell and Eneco Group.
