Rijkswaterstaat, part of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, has awarded Eneco the tender for the Maasvlakte 2 wind farm. With a capacity of around 100 MW, this future wind farm will be the energy company’s biggest onshore wind project.
The wind farm will be built on top of a flood defence in the Maasvlakte 2 industrial area and will generate around 416 GWh of green power, the equivalent of the energy consumption of 138,000 households. The tender was launched by the ministry in March 2019.
Eneco expects to start the preparatory works for the construction in 2022 and complete the wind farm in 2023. The company will exploit the wind farm for 25 years. Rijkswaterstaat will purchase the generated electricity under a 25-year PPA.
