Tetrahedron receives UNIIQ funding for its next generation turbine installation crane

Rotterdam-based Tetrahedron receives proof-of-concept funding from UNIIQ for its innovative crane that can install the next generation large offshore wind turbines. This was announced during the PortXL selection days in Rotterdam last week.

UNIIQ is an investment fund that aims to help entrepreneurs in West Holland in bringing their unique innovations to market faster. The funding should help Tetrahedron to further develop their innovative crane.

The size of offshore wind turbines is rapidly increasing and they will be installed at ever increasing heights. This poses challenges for the current and future installation vessels. The Tetrahedron crane will be able to install wind turbines in the range of 10 to 20 MW. According to the company, the crane can be fitted on existing jack-up installation vessels. What makes the crane design unique is the ability to extend the lifting height without losing lifting capacity. In addition, the crane can be transported on board the jack-up in a lying position. Bron: UNIIQ
