First inter-array cable in place in Borssele 1 + 2 OWF


Nexans has laid the first submarine inter-array cable in the 752 MW Borssele 1 & 2 offshore wind farm zone. The cable manufacturer received the contract for the from Ørsted in November 2018. It is part of a five-year framework agreement between the two companies.

The contract includes the supply and installation of between 170 and 190 km of three-phase 66 kV copper cables with two cross-sections and the relevant fittings and accessories. The solution is suitable for a maximum operating voltage of 72.5 kV.

The cables are being buried at a depth of 2 metres. Van Oord is responsible for the transportation, installation and burial of the 94 inter array cables. The company uses its cable-laying vessel Nexus and trencher Dig-It.

The Borssele 1 +2 offshore wind farm is located around 23 km off the coast of the province of Zeeland. In total 94  8 MW wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa will be installed. Currently the foundations are being installed. On 20 Februay, Ørsted reported that 19 of the foundations were installed.
