Dutch steel producer Sif announced it has produced its 2,000th monopile. The company started producing its first monopile in 2002, for the Danish offshore wind farm Horns Rev.

The 2,000th monopile will be used in the Borssele 1 + 2 offshore wind farm which is currently being built by Ørsted off the coast of the province of Zeeland. Sif was awarded the contract for the production of 47 monopiles, half of the total monopiles required for the wind farm. The monopiles are produced in two different diameters; 7.8 m and 8.3 m. Sif is currently in the last phase of the assignment and expects to complete it early April.

Sif has since its first monopile in 2002 produced for several national and international offshore wind farms. To respond to the demand for ever larger monopiles, the company, based in Roermond, decided to expand its production capacity. In 2016 Sif opened a new factory in Maasvlakte, Rotterdam, which is capable of producing monopiles with diameters up to 11 m, a maximum lenght of 120 m and maximum weight of 2,000 T.
