The tender for the 700 MW Hollandse Kust (noord) Wind Farm Site V opened today. The ternder will run till Thursday 30 april 2020, 5 PM, to apply.

Site V lies within the Hollandse Kust (noord) Wind Farm Zone which is located 18.5 kilometers off the west coast of the Netherlands. Since 2008, the Princess Amalia Wind Farm (120 MW) has been operational in this zone. Site V has been identified for the development of a wind farm, Hollandse Kust (noord) (HKN), with a capacity of 700 MW.

The total surface of the site is 126.4 km², of which 93.7 km² can effectively be used for the contruction of the wind farm. Part of the HKN is located within the 12 nautical miles zone, owned by the Dutch government. For this section the winner of the tender will have to close several agreements with the Central Government Real Estate Agency.

Offshore connection
HKN is one of 3 wind farm sites off the Dutch coast that will have to be connected to the Dutch grid before the end of 2023, as per the Energy Agreement 2013. The other two wind farm sites are Borssele and Hollandse Kust (zuid).

TenneT is responsible for the offshore connections, using the standardised 700 MW concept. HKN will have one 700 MW platform that collects the power from the individual wind turbines and transforms it from 66 kV to 220 kV. Two 220 kV cable systems will transport the power to a new onshore station near Beverwijk from where it is connected to the existing high-voltage station in Beverwijk. The future Hollandse Kust (west) wind farm will also be connected to this high-voltage station.

Update: several publications mention that energy company Vattenfall is not participating in this tender. Vattenfall previously won the Hollandse Kust (zuid) 3 and 4 but is said to be focusing on current projects due to the economical uncertainties as a result of the COVID-19 measures.
