DEME Group’s installation vessel Sea Challenger is on its way to deliver the first wind turbines for Ørsted’s 752 MW Borssele 1&2 offshore wind farm off the coast of Zeeland.
The Sea Challenger picked the turbines up from the Siemens yard in Esbjerg, Denmark. The installation vessel carries the components for 4 wind turbines; 12 blades, 4 nacelles and 4 towers.
The first badge of turbines will be installed next week. They are installed on monopile foundations. DEME, using its installation vessel Innovation, has been installing the foundations since January of this year. This week the company reached half way. Over the next months a total of 94 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines will be installed in the Borssele 1 & 2 wind zone. The 752 MW wind farm is due to be ready by the end of 2020.
