Van Oord Offshore Wind has awarded Visser & Smit Hanab a contract for all array cable terminations and testing work at the 731.5 MW Borssele III & IV offshore wind farm.
The wind farm, located some 22 km off the coast of the province of Zeeland, will comprise 77 MHI Vestas V164-9.5 MW wind turbines. These will be connected via 66 kV inter array cables to TenneT’s 700 MW Borssele Beta Offshore High Voltage Substation. The inter array cables were supplied by Prysmian. The first one was installed by Van Oord’s cable laying vessel Nexus in January of this year.
Visser & Smit Hanab will carry out all termination and testing operations, including stripping and storage of the cables. The routing, termination and testing activities will commence as soon as the turbines have been installed, the company said. It’s the company’s third subsequent 66kV project.
Borssele III & IV is a project by the Blauwwind consortium, including Van Oord, Shell, Partners Group, DGE and Eneco. The wind farm is due to be completed in 2021. Van Oord installed the first monopile foundation in October 2019.
