Van Oord has been contracted by Ailes Marines to transport and install all foundations in the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm.
Ailes Marines, a consortium of Spanish Iberdrola Group and French companies RES and Caisse Des Dépôts, will be building the wind farm some 20 km off the coast of France in the bay of Saint-Brieuc. The wind farm will comprise 62 Siemens Gamesa 8 MW wind turbines on jacket foundations that will be manufactured in Fene, Spain and in Brest, France.
Van Oord will be responsible for the transportation and installation of the jackets and the foundation piles for the offshore substation.
The Dutch marine contractor said it will start with the installation of the pin piles in 2021. The company will use their installation vessel Aeolus. The Aeolus will be assisted by a second vessel in 2022 to install jackets foundations.
The company has been awarded an Early Works Contract as per December 2019 in order to expedite the design and engineering. Construction on the subsea drilling template has already started and is scheduled to be delivered Q4 2020. It is the first offshore wind project in France for Van Oord but the company has already ample experience working on other projects in France.
The Saint-Brieuc project is to become operational in 2023 and will have a total installed capacity of 496 MW.
