Yesterday, financial close was reached for the Bommelerwaard-A2 Wind Farm in the province of Gelderland. The wind farm receives financing from Rabobank. Construction activities will start in Q2 2021. The wind farm is expected to become operational in 2022.

Five local landowners and Windunie, joint in Windpark Bommelerwaard-A2, are the initiators of the wind farm which will comprise of 3 wind turbines between the A2 highway and a rail way, south of Zaltbommel. The financing is organised by a local branche of Rabobank, Rabobank Altena-Bommelerwaard, supported by the Rabobank Project Finance Nederland team.

At the moment preparations are underway for the construction of the wind farm and communications with the surrounding. These are performed by turbine supplier Nordex and contractor H4A. The initiators have opted for Nordex’ ‘silent’ turbine, type N117. Each turbine has a hub height of 120 m, a rotor diameter of 117 m, a tip height of 180 m, and a rated power of 3.675 MW. Together the turbines are expected to produce around 30 million kWh annually.

Citizens from the Bommelerwaard region were given the opportunity to financially participate in one of the 3 turbines which has been named by the community ‘De Grote Kat’ (big cat).
