DEME completes foundation installation work in Borssele 1&2

DEME Offshore’s installation vessel Innovation has completed the installation of the last monopile foundation at the 752 MW Borssele 1&2 offshore wind farm. Over the past five months it installed 94 foundations in total. The wind farm is a project by Ørsted and is planned to be completed by the end of 2020.

The foundation installation activities started in January of this year. The Innovation left the Sif fabrication yard in Maasvlakte 2 with the last monopile on Sunday 31 May 2020.The 94 foundations were produced by Sif and EEW SPC. The transition pieces were supplied by Bladt Industries and EEW OSB.

While the foundation installation activities are now completed, the construction of the 8 MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbines and the cables continues.

Klaasjaap Buijs, Construction Manager Borssele 1&2 said the construction of the wind farm is on on schedule with especially a lot of traffic on site over the past few weeks, including 3 heavy-lift vessels, 2 cable installation vessels, 2 SOVs, 11 CTVs and 1 supply vessel. Currently 74 of 94 cables and 20 out of 94 wind turbines have been installed.
