Vattenfall has taken its final investment decision for the 1,500 MW Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm. In 2023, the project, located approximately 22 km off the coast of the Zuid-Holland province, will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world. Offshore constructions will start in 2021. The wind farm is to be completed in 2023.
Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm was tendered in two sperate development zones. Vattenfall won both subsidy-free tender rounds in 2018 and 2019. The two projects have been combined into one wind farm to optimise the process.
The wind farm will consist of 140 11 MW wind turbines and 2 offshore stations. In 2023, Hollandse Kust Zuid will provide a third of the total installed offshore wind capacity in the Netherlands. It will have a renewable electricity output equivalent to the annual consumption of over two million Dutch households. The maritime space between turbines will be open to passage and co-use following government regulations.
Suppliers
Siemens Gamesa was awarded the contract for delivering its 11 MW offshore wind turbine. Hollandse Kust Zuid will be the first commercial deployment of the turbine. Siemens Gamesa is also responsible for partial installation.
Dutch based Sif Group will supply the monopile foundations. Prysmian Powerlink S.r.l. and Twentsche Kabelfabriek (TKF) will supply the inter-array cable systems. Subsea 7 will install the foundations and inter-array cable systems while Swire Blue Ocean installs the turbines.
Operations and maintenance will take place from Port of IJmuiden where Vattenfall will build a new service facility.
