From 2023 onwards, Eneco will purchase the energy produced by 37 onshore wind turbines that are part of the Windplanblauw wind farm project in the Flevoland province. The Dutch energy company recently signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement with SwifterwinT.

SwifterwinT is a collaboration of over 150 entrepreneurs, residents and turbine owners from the outskirts of Swifterbant. Planned are 37 wind turbines on SwifterwinT grounds that will annually produce around 780 GWh. According to Eneco this is enough to provide the entire city of Almere with green energy annually. The energy company wishes to use the purchased energy locally. Construction activities will start in 2021 with completion planned for 2023.

The PPA fits in with Eneco’s strategy to switch more customers in Flevoland and in the Netherlands in general to sustainable energy consumption. With the PPA, the company expands its wind portfolio in 2023 to 2,500 MW of installed capacity. Source4Energy and Windunie advised SwifterwinT in the PPA process.

Windplanblauw
Windplanblauw is being developed by SwifterwinT and Vattenfall in the northwest corner of the Flevoland province, in the municipalities of Dronten en Lelystad. In total, 61 wind turbines are replacing the current 74 wind turbines. The new turbines will produce around 4 times more power. In addition to the land based 37 turbines, 24 turbines are being installed nearshore.

Early June, Windplanblauw informed that the process for both the land based an nearshore wind turbines is going according to plan. Preferred suppliers have already been selected for the onshore part of the wind farm. ABB Power Grid The Netherlands has been selected to supply the transformation station and export cables. Dura Vermeer Infra Landelijke Projecten was selected to supply the infield cables and 37 foundations. The final contracts are expected to be announced after the summer.
