SeaMar starts geophysical surveying on US offshore wind farms

One of Dutch shipping agency SeaMar’s vessels, the MV Deep Helder, a DP2 Survey & ROV Vessel, has started geophysical surveying on the South Fork and Revolution Wind farms off the US East Coast.

The MV Deep Helder, which has already built up some experience in working on offshore wind farms in Europe, is providing support to Swedish company MMT who will be conducting various marine survey tasks to assess the seabed prior to installation of any offshore cables and structures. MMT awarded the contract to SeaMar in May this year. The contract has a duration of 6 months and starts in July.

South Fork and Revolution Wind farms
The 132 MW South Fork project is planned 35 miles east of Montauk Point and will be New York’s first offshore wind farm. It is a project by a 50/50 partnership between Ørsted and Eversource. Onshore and offshore construction is planned to begin in 2021 and expected to be fully operational in 2022. It will have 15 wind turbines.

Revolution Wind is located 15 miles south of the Rhode Island coast. It will have a total capacity of 700 MW from 2 wind farms. A 400 MW wind farm will deliver power to Rhode Island, while another 300 MW wind farm will do the same for Connecticut.

The Revolution Wind offshore project is being developed by DWW Rev I, a 50:50 joint venture between Ørsted U.S. Offshore Wind and Eversource.

Ørsted and Eversource jointly own leases capable of delivering more than 4,000 MW of offshore wind energy to New England and New York.
