After it was announced yesterday evening that CrossWind, a consortium of Eneco and Shell, has won the permit for the development of a wind farm in the Hollandse Kust (noord) wind area, the first contracts have now also been announced. Siemens Gamesa will supply the turbines and Van Oord will construct the wind farm.
Van Oord has been appointed by the CrossWind consortium for the Balance of Plant work in the wind farm, which will be located 18.5 km off the coast and will have a capacity of 759 MW.
As Balance of Plant contractor, Van Oord’s activities encompass the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of the foundations, inter array cables and transportation and installation of the wind turbines. Van Oord will deploy its offshore installation vessels Aeolus, MPI Adventure and MPI Resolution and cable-laying vessel Nexus.
Siemens Gamesa will supply 69 of its 11 MW wind turbine. These turbines will mostly be located at a distance of 1 km from each other. This could provide space for other activities as long as this goes together. Various innovative techniques will be applied in the new wind farm to be built. This was a requirement when the project was put out to tender.
CrossWind has already made the final investment decision.
