Kraanverhuur Transport Friesland (KTF) will handle the storage and transhipment of the concrete platforms for the 89 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines of Windpark Fryslân. The Harlingen-based company has signed a contract for this with Zuiderzeewind, the contractor consortium for the wind farm that is being built in the IJsselmeer, south of the Afsluitdijk.
KTF has been active in the onshore wind energy sector for some time. However, the Fryslân wind farm is the first contract in offshore wind. Anno Zuidema, general director of KTF: “During the business day organised by Windpark Fryslân, we first got to know this project. Due to the location of our company and the wide range of services, we were approached to temporarily store the concrete platforms. ”
Full concept
KTF will offer a full logistics concept for the project with regard to unloading, transporting and reloading of the platforms that are manufactured at Per Aarsleff A/S in Poland. The company will provide, among other things, engineering, storage, heavy and vertical transport. An area of approximately 10,000 m2 has been made available for this purpose on the Nesta site.
The platforms are delivered from Poland and stored at KTF’s premises in Harlingen. After a short storage period, the concrete platforms are loaded onto a pontoon per 6, using a 400-tonnes crane. This pontoon is shipped from Harlingen via the Lorentz locks to the project location at Breezanddijk in the IJsselmeer.
An installation vessel from Van Oord already on location will then install the components. The vessel is currently being prepared at Lelystad. Zuiderzeewind, a consortium consisting of Van Oord and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, hopes to start installing the foundations in September.
