German turbine manufacturer Nordex will supply the turbines for De Rietvelden Wind Farm in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The initiators have opted for the N117 model. The exact construction schedule is not yet concrete, but construction is expected to start at the end of 2020 or early 2021.
De Rietveld Wind Farm consists of four wind turbines on and near the De Rietwaarden industrial estate in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The turbines form a cluster with the existing Treurenburg wind turbine. The project is an initiative of Heineken Brouwerij ‘s-Hertogenbosch, container terminal BCTN, demolition and contracting company Barten, the Pennings family, sustainable energy company Pure Energie and citizen cooperative Bossche Windmolen West (BWW). One of the four wind turbines is owned by BWW and its 553 members.
Energy company Pure Energie is involved as a developer and supplier of locally produced green energy to companies and consumers and holds the permit for the wind farm. The project received the final permit in August 2019.
“Silent” turbine
The Nordex N117 has been selected. It features a hub height of 119 m, a rotor diameter of 117 m and a tip height of 177.5 m. The turbine thus meets the requirements set out in the permit. In addition to these requirements, the turbine also had to meet certain noise standards. The initiators report that they have opted for the most silent variant of the turbine models available on the market that meet the noise nuisance requirements set out in the permit.
The wind farm is expected to generate approximately 38.6 million kWh of green electricity per year. The power from 3 wind turbines is purchased by the Heineken brewery and is expected to supply approximately 60% of its electricity demand. The power from the fourth wind turbine, from BWW, is used by the residents of ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
Planning
Construction of the wind farm will start at the end of 2020 or early 2021. The exact planning still needs to be fine-tuned. The wind turbines will be installed in the course of 2021.
