On Monday 17 August 2020, the Heavy Load Carrier Hua Xing Long arrived at Scheveningen with on board the jacket foundation for the Hollandse Kust (zuid) Alpha offshore station. The jacket will soon be transported by Heerema’s crane vessel Sleipnir to its final destination in Vattenfall’s Hollandse Kust (south) (HKZ) offshore wind farm and installed there.
TenneT is responsible for the offshore connection of the wind farm. This consists of HKZ Alpha and HKZ Beta. In 2018, the grid operator awarded Petrofac the EPC contract for the HKZ Alpha offshore transformer station. Petrofac has outsourced the construction of the jacket foundation to Eversendai Offshore in the United Arab Emirates and the top to Drydocks World in Dubai. Heerema Marine Contracters was awarded the contract in May 2019 for the installation of both the jacket and the topside.
Jacket foundation
The 6-legged jacket foundation was built at the Eversendai Offshore yard in RAK Maritime City, Ras al Khaimah. The foundation weighs approximately 3,200 tons and is 40 meters long, 47 meters wide and 48 meters high. Mammoet was appointed to weigh and transport the foundation from the yard to the quay and for the load-out. The Hua Xing Long left in mid-July with the jacket and accompanying 6 piles from Eversendai’s yard towards the Netherlands. Eversendai is also going for the Hollandse Kust Zuid Beta platform. The topside is expected to be installed on the foundation at the end of 2020. The connection should become operational in 2021.
