Vestas has been selected to supply all wind turbines for the Kroningswind Wind Farm at Goeree-Overflakkee, in the province of Zuid-Holland. The Danish company will supply 19 wind turbines, type V117-4.2MW. Upon completion, expected by the end of 2021, the wind farm will have an installed power of almost 80 MW.
The Vestas V117-4.2 MW has a rotor diameter of 117 meters and a hub height of 91.5 meters. Due to the tip height of 150 meters, no lighting is required. The standard turbine will be adapted to the location. For example, the tower is specially developed for this location.
In addition to the supply, installation and commissioning of the turbines, the contract also includes a 25-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement. The wind farm will also feature a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution, lowering turbine downtime and thus optimising the energy output.
This contract brings Vestas’ total installed onshore wind capacity in the Netherlands to more than 2 GW.
Kroningswind wind farm
Kroningswind wind farm will be built in an agricultural area between Stellendam and Middelharnis. The wind farm is an initiative from 2011 by 10 farmers. In 2019, the Belgian infrastructure investment company TINC took a majority stake in the wind farm. Of the 19 wind turbines, 5 will be located in the Blok de Wit nature reserve.
A company day will soon be organized for local entrepreneurs. The initiators have set up a Goeree-Overflakkee Wind Fund for the surrounding area. € 0.50 of every MWh of electricity generated is deposited into the wind fund. Part of this fund will go to homes within 1 kilometer of the wind farm. The remainder is for sustainable initiatives that can be submitted by local residents and organizations within a radius of 3.5 kilometers from the wind farm or, if any budget remains, within the municipal boundary.
