Trelleborg has been awarded a contract by Seaway 7, the renewables business unit of Subsea 7, to provide 281 NjordGuard cable protection systems for Vattenfall’s Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm project.
In April 2020, Subsea 7 was contracted by Vattenfall for the Hollandse Kust Zuid project. The contract is for the transport and installation of approximately 140 wind turbine monopile foundations and 315 km of 66kV inter array cables.
Trelleborg’s applied technologies operation will produce and supply of 281 NjordGuard cable protection systems for Seaway 7. The system will protect the inner-array power cables for 140 monopile wind turbines in the Hollandse Kust Zuid project, as well as the array cables at the points where they meet the two offshore substations on the project, from over-bending, abrasion and fatigue.
The cable protection system facilitates easier installation, reuse and removal without diver and ROV intervention, optimizing efficiency and maximizing safety, Trelleborg says. In addition it is easily assembled on a vessel to allow speedy installation. The system’s highly abrasion resistant API 17L certified Uraduct® material enables it to travel over the seabed without damage, extending cable life.
Production of the 281 NjordGuard cable protection system will take place in Trelleborg’s manufacturing facility in the North West of England.
