The onshore cable connection for the 382.7 MW Fryslân Wind Farm is ready. With 55 kilometres it is the largest onshore sustainable energy connection in the Netherlands. The connection will start transporting the electricity produced by 89 wind turbines in the IJsselmeer sometime in 2021.
The 110 kV onshore cable connection runs from the onshore high voltage station at Kornwerderzand on the Afsluitdijk and TenneT’s high-voltage grid in Oudehaske. The connection was built in two sections; between the substation and Bolsward and from Bolsward to TenneT’s high-voltage station in Oudehaske, near Heerenveen in the Fryslân province. The first route section was the responsibility of the owners of the wind farm and the second section of grid operator TenneT.
Visser & Smit Hanab was contracted for the installation of both sections of the cable route. Prysmian supplied the cables. Installation work on the first section started in August 2019 and was completed earlier this year, in July. Now the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) for the 32 kilometre second section of the cable route has been passed. Several horizontal directional drillings had to be performed on the cable route. Work on the substation is in the meantime progressing.
Inter array cables
Visser & Smit Hanab has also been awarded the contract to perform all array cable Terminations and Testing work at the wind farm. The company will be carrying out all termination and testing operations. The routing, termination and testing activities will commence as soon as the cable installation starts, most likely in the next few weeks.
