The Provincial Executive (GS) of the province of Noord-Holland has given permission to install 4 wind turbines at Westpoortweg. In doing so, they fulfill the agreement in the coalition agreement to make wind farms possible in the Amsterdam Metropalitan Area. This was not allowed previously.
With the new environmental regulation, the province offers municipalities in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area space to install wind turbines. At the request of municipalities, the Provincial Executive can designate areas where wind turbines may be installed. Based on this, the municipalities in the area can give further substance to the Regional Energy Strategies. The decision is still being submitted to the Provincial Council. The North Sea Canal Area Environment Agency (Omgevingsdienst Noordzeekanaalgebied) issues the necessary permits.
The wind turbines can contribute to the goals set in the Regional Energy Strategy (RES) Noord Holland Zuid. Deputy for Climate & Energy Edward Stigter said: “Together with municipalities, water boards and other parties involved, we expect to be able to generate 2.7 TWh of wind and solar energy in North Holland South by 2030. In doing so, we take liveability, nature and landscape qualities into account as much as possible. This plan fully complies with that. ”
Requirements
The wind turbines on Westpoorterweg are located in the middle of the North Sea Canal area. The following conditions apply to the construction of wind turbines: at least 3 turbines of the same model must be placed in a row, following a logical landscape line. The distance between the turbines must be the same. The plans for the 4 turbines on Westpoorterweg meet these requirements.
