Dutch subsea cable solutions provider Vos Prodect Innovations (VPI) has been awarded a contract by Dutch cable manufacturer Twentsche Kabel Fabriek (TKF) to deliver cable hang-off systems for the 342 MW Kaskasi offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

The Kaskasi wind farm is being buitl by RWE some 35 km off the island of Heligoland. It will feature 38 Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SG 8.0-167 DD Flex turbines with up to 9 MW capacity. TKF was contracted by Seaway 7, who are responsible for the installation of the inter array cables and foundations, to provide approximately 52 km of 33 kV inter array cables.

The company has now contracted VPI to deliver cable hang-off systems. The offshore work is set to start in Q3 2021. VPI’s Hang-Off System has already been extensively tested in combination with TKF’s Array Cable.

Marc Derks, Chief Executive Officer VPI: “Here at VPI, we are proud to contribute to RWE’s Kaskasi offshore wind farm. We are pleased with our close partnership with TKF and look forward to the future and deepening our collaborations with TKF. Our products will make a major contribution to reduced installation time and a greener world.”

Kaskasi offshore wind farm
The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) granted RWE the planning permission in December 2020. It is the first offshore wind farm in Germany that received planning permission under the new wind at sea law. It is set to go online in the summer of 2022 and be fully commercially operational at the end of 2022. A component of the permit are pilot wind turbines at which innovative technologies will be tested.
