Danish steel manufacturer Welcon has been contracted by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) to supply 78 towers for the Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) offshore wind farm. The order is part of a larger supply order of 140 towers.

HKZ, a Vattenfall project, will be located approximately 20 kilometers off the west coast of the Netherlands and is scheduled to be completed in 2023. In total, 140 wind turbines from SGRE will be installed in the wind farm. It concerns the type SG 11.0-193 DD Flex with a capacity of 11 MW.

Welcon has received the order from SGRE for the construction of 78 towers. The first towers are expected to be ready by the end of 2021 and the remaining towers will be delivered throughout 2022.

Expansion of production capacity
The HKZ order is part of a larger order of 140 towers. The other towers will be manufactured for the German Kaskasi project (38 towers) and the Scottish Neart na Gaoithe (24 towers).

Welcon has already made investments in itswww.wel facility in Give, Denmark in recent years to meet the production requirements for the ever-growing towers. With these new large orders, the company has decided to further expand both capacity and capability for producing wind turbine towers. As a result, the company is responding to the next generations of towers in even larger volumes.
