Van Oord was one of the companies who received an award during the Iberdrola RETO Awards for Supplier of the Year in Madrid, Spain. The company received the RETO Energy Transition award for its advances towards the energy transition.
The Iberdrola RETO (Recuperación (Recovery), Energía (Energy), Transición (Transition) and ODS (SDGs)) Awards for Supplier of the Year is in recognition of a global ecosystem of 22,000 suppliers and 400,000 workers. With the awards, Iberdrola recognise the key role of the value chain in the achievement of Iberdrola’s strategic projects and the relevance of creating an ecosystem of suppliers working towards the same objectives. The awards went to companies that stand out due to their commitment to the energy transition, innovation, entrepreneurship, employability, talent, contribution to the SDGs and involvement with COVID-19.
In recognition of 22,000 suppliers and 400,000 workers globally
The 2021 RETO Supplier of the Year Awards was presented by their Majesties the King and Queen of Spain, accompanied by the minister of Education and Vocational Training, Isabel Celaá, and the chairman of Iberdrola group, Ignacio Galán. The presentation of the awards coincided with the official inauguration of the company’s Innovation and Training Campus in San Agustín del Guadalix in Madrid. that will function as a global centre for innovation and job creation
Van Oord received the RETO Energy Transition award for its advances towards the energy transition. Van Oord has already been involved in the East Anglia ONE park and has won orders for Saint-Brieuc and Baltic Hub. Other award winners were Mapfre, from Spain for its commitment to equality, Basque company Ibermática for its promotion of quality jobs, and UK company Kirby for its commitment to digitalisation.
Iberdrola also awarded a special COVID mention to five companies -Amara, Ormazabal, Iturri, Wottoline and DSV – for their commitment during the pandemic.
Iberdrola’s commitment to the energy transition
2020 represented a major stride forward in the company’s commitment to the energy transition, an objective to which the company has allocated €120 billion over the past twenty years. Offshore wind is playing an important in this strategy. Iberdrola currently has three wind farms in operation in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and the Irish Sea, and has a pipeline of 19,000 MW, of which 9,000 MW are ready for construction.
The company will invest another €150 billion by 2030 – the largest industrial plan ever presented by a Spanish company. This will triple its renewable capacity to almost 100,000 MW; deliver smarter grid networks and promote new energy growth areas such as green hydrogen.
