ANWB and EnergyZero start pilot delivering electricity at actual cost price

The Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB is starting ANWB Energie, offering green electricity from wind and solar and gas from the Netherlands at the actual cost price. The company is doing so in cooperation with with energy platform EnergyZero for this pilot.

ANWB sees that the future is electric. It is expected that by 2030 there will be about 1.9 million electric cars in the Netherlands. The company wants to make and keep the switch to electricity feasible and affordable for everyone and believes it is important to do so in a sustainable way.

With ANWB Energie, customers will receive certified green power from the Netherlands (solar and wind) and CO2-compensated gas at home, at the actual cost price. This is dynamic: the price of electricity varies by the hour, the price of gas by the day. ANWB Energie works with a subscription, but without a profit margin on consumption and unnecessary storage, and can be cancelled monthly without penalty. Customers that move their power consumption to less busy moments, when there is increasingly plenty of wind and solar energy on the electricity grid, save extra.

The company’s ambition is for the electric car to become the shining centrepiece of their sustainable energy supply. A full car battery of 64kWh is good for more than a week’s energy consumption by an average household. People who charge smartly will be able to use their electric cars as their own energy storage in the future. At times of high demand, they can then even supply energy to their neighbours or sell it to the grid. ANWB’s vision: millions of electric cars that together will form a power station in 2030, owned by ANWB members. ANWB Energie is a first step towards realising their ambition.
