Ampelmann enters Chinese offshore market

Ampelmann has signed its first offshore contract in China. The Dutch offshore access provider will provide the A-type motion compensated access system, one of its flagship systems, to Guangdong Safety New Energy. The system will be deployed on a Service Operation Vessel (SOV) in the Guandong Yangjiang offshore wind farm off Guangdong province.

Ampelmann was able to secure this project with the support of Leading Marine (HK) CO. Limited, its local partner in the Guangdong area, where the project is located. China plans to install 10 GW here by 2030.

Ampelmann will deliver the A-type system by the end of October 2021. The access system will be placed on the client’s new 60m SOV ‘MV Guang An Yun Wei 88’. It will be first the SOV equipped with a motion compensated gangway in China, Ampelmann said. The system will enable the transfer of personnel at Guangdong Yangjiang offshore wind farm. This wind farm is located 40 nautical miles off the coast, with water depths of around 40m. It is the largest wind farm in Guangdong.

The contract with Guangdong Safety New Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Guangdong Yuean Shipping, is for a minimum period of six months, with a possible extension of another half year. The project will mark Yuean’s first step in the offshore wind operations and maintenance sector.

Ampelmann wil provide training for the operators of the system and is, in addition to this project, also looking into the possibility of training local operators to support upcoming projects in China. Source: Ampelmann
