Steel manufacturer Sif has completed a quayside extension project at their Maasvlakte 2 premises. The quayside is said to be the deepest and strongest of Rotterdam and The Netherlands.
Sif extended the old quay wall by 200m, leading to a total length of 600m and a retaining height of 30m. The depth in combination with the height makes this quayside unique, as it is the deepest and strongest quayside of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Now, up to 3 jack-up vessels can be loaded simultaneously at the quay in our terminal. This quay was developed especially to support the arrival these vessels.
Smart sensors
Smart sensors were placed in the quay, the company says. These sensors are able to measure the forces the quay will experience during its lifetime, in order to closely monitor and maintain the integrity of the structure. With the extension of the quay wall, Sif wants to support its clients even better with marshalling and logistics activities. Source: Sif
