Vattenfall joins GROW consortium

Energy company Vattenfall has joined the GROW joint research program in offshore wind. Here a consortium of offshore wind industry and research partners initiate research and accelerate the innovations that are needed for the transition of the energy system.

GROW (Growth through Research, development & demonstration in Offshore Wind) strives to expand the role of offshore wind in the energy system by reducing the cost level of offshore wind, creating an added value of wind energy in the energy system and to further enhance its symbiosis with other sectors at sea. GROW exploits synergies between projects and helps partners to commercialize innovations faster and more efficiently.

Martijn Hagens. CEO Vattenfall Netherlands: “In order to create fossil free living within one generation Vattenfall is taking on the responsibility to find new and innovative ways to power the lives of our customers. Together with the successful partners in GROW, we want to develop innovations to reduce the use of fossil fuels significantly.”

Vattenfall is already involved in the Corrosion Fatigue Life Optimisation (C-FLO) and Sensor Assisted Wind farm Optimisation (SAWOP) projects.

David the Jager, Director of GROW: “The consortium welcomes Vattenfall and looks forward to working closer together on innovations that will shape the future of offshore wind. Cooperation on innovation is key for the acceleration of the development and deployment of offshore wind. Vattenfall has a lot of experience in offshore wind and will enrich the consortium and contribute to our mission.”

Other members include Ampelmann, Boskalis, Deltares, DNV, DOT, Eneco, IHC, LM Windpower, MARIN, RWE, Seaway, Shell, Sif, TenneT, TNO, TU Delft and Van Oord.
