SSE Renewables and Offshore Wind Innovators kicked off the 6th edition of Offshore Wind Innovation Challenge today. Through this challenge, SSE Renewables is evoking entrepreneurs to come up with solutions for two of its current challenges for offshore wind development.
SSE Renewables recently announced plans to enter the Dutch Offshore wind market. As part of their strategy, they will use their ecological and systems integration expertise to develop innovative solutions to address current and future challenges and support the further development of offshore wind in the Netherlands and beyond.
Two challenges
SSE Renewables presents two challenges. For one, the company is looking for innovative ways to produce a stable baseload of energy for a continuous period from an offshore wind farm. Like improved forecasting, operational optimisation, energy buffering, and reliability of supply.
In addition, SSE Renewables is looking for innovations that collect and interpret data on ecosystems within and around offshore wind farms, from pre-development through to decommissioning.
Finals on 10 June 2022
From February 8th to April 8th, SSE Renewables evokes entrepreneurs to take up the challenges by presenting either a concept or a proven solution. From April to June 2022, the entrepreneurs will get the opportunity to work with experts from SSE Renewables and TKI Wind op Zee in two plenary sessions to further shape their innovative solutions.
The finalists will pitch their developed concept to a wide audience during the Finals in June 10th 2022. This will increase the visibility of participants and their innovations in the offshore wind market. In addition, they receive coaching from leading offshore wind companies, which could act as launching customers.
Offshore Wind Innovation Challenge
Offshore Wind Innovation Challenge is organised by Offshore Wind Innovators, a community for pioneering companies in the offshore wind industry, in close cooperation with TKI Wind op Zee. Through the Challenge they offer business partners of the community with a proven track record in the offshore wind industry a platform to introduce current challenges they are facing, and in turn, provide interested students, start-ups and SME’s to provide possible solutions.
SSE Renewables follows companies like Mammoet, Van Oord, Deutsche Wind Technik, SeaZip Offshore and Rich North Sea. The first five editions of the Offshore Wind Innovation Challenge led to partnerships and innovations like the bubble curtain, artificial reefs, new fender techniques and more.
