TenneT hires Boskalis for Hollandse Kust West Beta export cabling

TenneT has awarded Boskalis the Hollandse Kust West Beta export cable contract in collaboration with Orient Cables (NBO).

The contract includes the installation of two 65-kilometre-long export cables that will connect TenneT’s onshore grid in the Netherlands to the planned Hollandse Kust West Beta 700 MW offshore wind farm. Boskalis will also construct a 9-kilometre 66kV interconnector cable between the Hollandse Kust West Alpha and Hollandse Kust West Beta offshore substations.

This contract will be carried out by Boskalis in collaboration with its partner NBO, which will design and supply the high-voltage cable system. The two 220kV AC cable circuits will arrive at Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands, near an existing onshore high voltage substation. The contract value for Boskalis is considered to be ‘considerable’.

Reducing CO2 emissions in the Netherlands

Boskalis will provide an integrated solution of in-house services for this project, which will include the removal of unexploded ordnance from the seabed, geotechnical and geophysical surveys, beach and seabed preparation work, and cable laying and burial. The offshore windfarm Hollandse Kust West Beta is scheduled to begin operations in 2025.

Boskalis is advancing the energy transition by making renewable energy available in the Netherlands through this project and its client TenneT. The Hollandse Kust (West Beta) project is part of a national plan in the Netherlands to reduce CO2 emissions by 49% by 2030.
