Today the festive opening took place of the Fieldlab Zephyros indoor wind turbine in the KAAP at the knowledge yard in Vlissingen. The nacelle is part of a real ‘living lab’ where knowledge institutes and innovative companies develop, test and demonstrate smart and mostly digital (robotisation) solutions.
Fieldlab Zephyros is an initiative of World Class Maintenance and aims to make the maintenance of offshore wind turbines smarter. To realise this, Fieldlab Zephyros initiates, stimulates and facilitates cooperation between business, education and government.

In addition to several turbine blades, a nacelle has recently been installed. It is the nacelle of a Vestas V66. Thanks to this unique ‘indoor’ set-up, students and employees of knowledge institutions and innovative companies can now carry out study assignments and innovation research in a real wind turbine without any restrictions.
During this opening, the first users, Scalda, TNO Offshore Wind Energy Transition, LiftWerx and the T-shore Syntra West project presented their intended activities. In addition, the history and characteristics of the turbine were explained by Marcel van Essen, former maintenance engineer at Vestas. There was also an opportunity to take a look inside the nacelle.
