World’s largest commercial turbines en route to Hollandse Kust Zuid

The Wind Osprey vessel has left Rotterdam’s Maasvlakte port with the world’s largest commercial turbines, which will be installed on the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm.

The Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm zone will be equipped with approximately 140 units of Siemens Gamesa‘s newest and largest Direct Drive offshore turbines, the SG 11.0-200 DD, with a capacity of 11 MW. Siemens Gamesa 11MW turbines have a rotor diameter of 200 meters and a total height of 225 meters measured from sea level to the top of the blade.

Cadeler will assist Vattenfall with the transportation, lifting, and installation of 140 of these gigawatt offshore wind turbines. The jack-up can transport the components for 4 complete wind turbines at a time.

Vattenfall and its partner BASF are constructing Hollandse Kust Zuid. The wind farm is located about 18 kilometers off the coast of The Hague and Zandvoort. When completed, Hollandse Kust Zuid will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm. The combined installed capacity of the 140 turbines is 1.5 Gigawatt.
