Ballast Nedam selects CAPE VLT for Maasvlakte 2 flanged monopiles installation

The CAPE VLT-320 was chosen by installation contractor Ballast Nedam to install flanged monopiles at the soft sea wall on the Maasvlakte 2 Wind Farm, near the Dutch coast.

The monopiles, with a diameter of 5 meters and a weight of 300 tonnes, will support the Maasvlakte 2 Wind Farm’s 12 turbines.

The CAPE VLT will be used by Ballast Nedam to upend and drive the piles to a stable depth from a temporary platform on the beach. The piles will be driven to final penetration with an impact hammer. Installation is scheduled for the second quarter of 2022.

Eneco’s Maasvlakte 2 Wind Farm will generate more than 400 GWh of sustainable electricity starting in 2023. The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management will purchase all power for 25 years, making the ministry energy neutral as early as 2023.
