Huisman, based in Schiedam, has been awarded a contract by Great Lakes Dredge & Dock (GLDD) for the delivery of rock installation equipment in the United States.
The equipment, which will be installed on the company’s newbuild rock installation vessel, will help to advance offshore renewable energy production in US waters.
Huisman has improved the equipment used to install the scour protection required for offshore wind projects. This includes foundation filter and armour layers, which it can install either before or after the foundation is installed. It can also protect inter array and export cables with cable protection. The equipment will enable GLDD to play a significant role in the development of the offshore wind industry in the United States.
Huisman will collaborate on the project with TME, a designer and manufacturer of bespoke equipment for the offshore, bulk, asphalt, and concrete industries, and will use its robust and proven rock transportation technology, which includes a plate feeder, shakers, and hoppers.
The rock installation equipment is expected to arrive in the first half of 2024.
