TouchWind and MOL developing floating wind technology

TouchWind of the Netherlands and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) of Japan have teamed up to develop TouchWind’s floating wind technology.

The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which they will work together to develop TouchWind’s floating wind turbine with a tilting angled one-piece rotor, which will save 30% on current turbine costs.

The company’s collaboration with MOL could help it launch the one-piece rotor floating wind turbine faster and in more markets. MOL said the partnership with TouchWind was part of its plan to expand into offshore wind. MOL also recently announced another collaboration with Dutch company Seawind Ocean Technology.
