The Aegir, a heavy lift vessel owned by Heerema Marine Contractors, has completed the installation of jacket foundations at the Greater Changhua 2a wind farm site off the coast of Taiwan.
The vessel will now proceed to Greater Changhua 1 to complete the same work, according to the company’s social media posts. Around half of the jacket foundations and over 60% of the pin piles for the 900 MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a project were completed as a result of this.
In 2019, Heerema Marine Contractors was awarded a contract by Ørsted to transport and install turbine foundations as well as offshore substations at the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind projects. Heerema would be responsible for transporting and installing 111 turbine foundations, as well as two large offshore substations, which are critical components of offshore wind farms that supply electricity to the mainland.
The Greater Changhua offshore wind project consists of four sites located 35 to 60 kilometers off the coast of Changhua County in the Taiwan Strait. Ørsted has acquired site rights to four offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 2.4GW.
