According to a recent study from The Renewables Consulting Group (RCG), worldwide offshore wind development capacity increased by 89% in 2021.
More than 200GW of new offshore wind projects have been announced in major countries like the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, as well as emerging markets like Italy and Australia.
According to RCG’s 2021 Worldwide Offshore Wind Annual Market Report, there is a new No. 1 in the global rankings, as Brazil has surpassed 97GW of offshore wind capacity in development.
The United Kingdom comes in second with 83.6GW overall, with 10.5GW operating and 9.8GW secured.
Vietnam continues to build a large pipeline, with 65.6GW in the works.
China is ranked fourth, having added about 8GW of capacity in 2021, surpassing the United Kingdom to become the largest operating offshore wind market.
