For the CrossWind Hollandse Kust Noord project, a number of significant milestones have been reached recently in order to be prepared for offshore foundation installation in the fourth quarter of this year.
At various fabrication locations in Europe, work on the major components of the offshore WTG foundations began. For instance, Marketex manufactures the main access platforms and boat landings in Eustonia, while Amicon and SIF, both of which have fabrication facilities in the Netherlands, manufacture the internal hang-off platforms and large monopiles.
The Dutch Navy/EOD recently completed the campaign to find and identify unexploded ordnance, which was essential work in advance of the offshore foundation installation, by removing a number of mortars and grenades at 3 locations.
After the summer, major wind turbine component fabrication will begin. Additionally, scour protection, in the form of “rock carpets,” will be installed offshore at each location of the monopiles.
The Hollandse Kust Noord offshore wind project is being developed and will be run by CrossWind, a joint venture between Shell and Eneco. Near the town of Egmond aan Zee, Hollandse Kust Noord is situated 18.5 kilometers off the west coast of the Netherlands. Hollandse Kust Noord will have a 759 MW installed capacity and generate at least 3.3 TWh annually by 2023, according to CrossWind’s plans.
