Windcat orders newly developed hydrogen-powered CSOVs from Damen

Windcat has placed an order with Damen Shipyards, a leading global provider of maritime solutions, for the building of a number of hydrogen-powered Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs).

In collaboration with Windcat and CMB.TECH, Damen Shipyards created the “Elevation Series” CSOVs. The end product is a completely new design that is more capable and adaptable than current vessels. The 87 m long, 20 m wide, and 120 person capacity vessels will be powered by hydrogen. Beginning in 2025, the series will be delivered.

The CSOVs will be created in Vietnam’s Ha Long Shipyard and delivered to Windcat Offshore, a brand-new division of Windcat that will concentrate on offshore energy commissioning and services. Two ships have been ordered at first, with the possibility of more.

A CSOV is a ship that stays in an offshore wind farm for up to 30 days at a time, supplying supplies for upkeep and housing technicians in hotel-style quarters.

Elevation Series

The Elevation Series will be equipped with the same dual fuel hydrogen technology as the Hydrocat, the first hydrogen-powered CTV in the world, in order to dramatically minimize the CO2 footprint of the vessels (Crew Transfer Vessel). The creation of laws and policies governing the use of hydrogen as a fuel in medium-sized boats will be significantly aided by this strategy.

The Elevation Series will include, among other market-leading features to be unveiled in the upcoming weeks, the most recent gangway, crane, thrusters, hybrid battery technology, and offshore charging capability.
