CrossWind hires KBR to design offshore energy storage for Hollandse Kust (noord)

KBR has been given a contract to offer engineering services for CrossWind, a joint venture (JV) between Shell and Dutch utility company Eneco, for an innovative offshore energy storage project.

KBR will design the baseload power hub (BLPH) for the Hollandse Kust (noord) wind farm, which will be located offshore in the Netherlands.

KBR and Shell will design and build facilities that combine megawatt-scale production of green hydrogen electrolysis and lithium-ion battery storage. In periods of high power output, the design will allow for the production of hydrogen and the storage of electricity, while in periods of low power production, a fuel cell will convert hydrogen to electricity.
