VolkerWind nominated for Dutch Best Practice Audience Award 2022

Dutch contractor VolkerWind has been nominated with its Man Down-system for the Dutch Best Practise Public Award 2022, organised by the Bewuste Bouwers foundation.

Since 2020, the public has been able to vote for the most inspiring Best Practice. Last year, Bewuste Bouwer recognised eight Best Practices across eight projects, including VolkerWind with its Man Down-system.

Man Down-system

The Man Down-system means that an employee, even on remote project sites, is always in contact with the project’s emergency response worker (FAFS / BHV’er). When the employee is alone in the field and an emergency occurs, the FAFS officer is alerted via this system. The FAFS officer receives a message on his mobile and can read out the coordinates where the employee is located.

VolkerWind introduced the Man Down-system in consultation with client Shell on the Energiepark Pottendijk project. On this project northeast of Emmen, between Nieuw-Weerdinge and Emmer-Compascuum, 90,000 solar panels and 14 wind turbines are being realised, which together will generate 170 GWh of green electricity annually. Here, VolkerWind is responsible for the design and realisation of the Balance of Plant for the wind farm.
